THE FIGHT AGAINST POVERTY.
Poverty levels in Kenya have been high and hence well laid procedures and practices needs to be taken
into consideration so as to fight this mega issue. Some of the major steps taken into place in fighting
poverty are as discussed below :
. Encouraging foreign investment into our country
Through foreign investment, more companies will be established hence creating more job
opportunities for our youth. Youths fall under the major group of the unemployed and make up the
greater number of the population. Hence when the youths are employed, most of the population will be
employed. Thus, their living standards will improve therefore eradicating poverty.
. Favourable government policies.
Policies implemented by the government should be favourable and friendly to the poor and the less
fortunate. Taxes imposed on the poor shouldn’t create a more huge burden to them . On the contrary ,
they should be lowly taxed or not taxed at all . This will assist them to raise more money hence meeting
their needs becomes much easier. The surplus funds they have will also help them invest so as to
generate more and more money hence increasing their living standards and thus eradicating poverty.
. Provision of loans with lower interest rates.
Low interest loans provided to the poor will be beneficial as they’ll be able to invest and generate more
money. On loan repayment, the burden will be much lesser as the interest rates are favourable to them.
The money they generate from their investment will help them raise their living standards hence
eradication of poverty.
. Eradicating ignorance.
This is done by providing education and educational facilities to all the poor . More skills and abilities
gained will assist them acquire new jobs hence generate income . Due to availability of income , their
living standards will increase hence poverty levels will greatly decrease or go extinct totally.
More people more so the poor are illiterate hence there has been lack of awareness amongst people on
the availability of jobs as well as necessary skills to perform various jobs. Through educating them,
poverty eradication will be made possible as they will be well informed now on the various relevant jobs
they will undertake so as to generate money to raise their living standards.
. More government based industries might be put up to facilitate provision of job opportunities to the
poor . The government might also provide incentives to non governmental organizations as well as
reliving them the burden of tax so as to encourage them to produce more hence high more people.
Through this , the poor will benefit and improve their standards of living greatly.
The government may opt to privatize their companies too hence creating more and more job
opportunities to the poor .
. Reducing rural to urban migration. Most of the poor people are located in those huge cities. Most of them having gone there in search of
greener pastures and unfortunately ended up jobless . Hence providing job opportunities in rural areas
will help them vacate from those cities where their living standards are low to rural areas where they
can build themselves through the jobs offered . This will help them increase their standards of living and
also contribute to growth and development in rural areas in the long run.
.Even allocation of national resources to all regions within the country.
Resource allocation should be done in a transparent manner. The rich should not receive most of the
resources leaving the poor to scramble for the bare minimum or even non. Most of it should be
distributed to the poor so that they too can build themselves and make most use of it in generating
more income hence improving their standards of living.
Through this approach, there will be equity hence eradicating poverty will be much easier, as a unified
approach is used in this activity .
In conclusion, poverty eradication is very much possible if everyone cooperates in this fight. Good
governance , fighting impunity and hastening the fight against corruption will greatly contribute to the
success in fighting poverty amongst all citizens.
Together we can eradicate poverty if we all work together regardless of our diverse backgrounds .
