HOW DEVOLUTION HAS CONTRIBUTED TO EFFECTIVE GOVERNANCE IN THE COUNTRY.

HOW DEVOLUTION HAS CONTRIBUTED TO EFFECTIVE GOVERNANCE IN THE COUNTRY:

Hello reader, today I’ll be taking you through some of the major ways the delegation of power and functions from the central government to local government has contributed to effective governance in the country. Through sharing of power from the national government to the subordinate government i.e. the county government, administration activities have been more effective hence governing the subjects has become much easier. Devolution too has facilitated the share of functions , hence the central government have been relieved the burden in carrying out all these functions alone as the county government too is mandated to carry out the same functions as the central government. So effective governance has been achieved. Some of the key ways in which devolution has contributed to effective governance in the country are elaborated below:

. Through devolution, equity has been achieved. Different and diverse communities have now been able to raise their claims more easily as they don’t have to approach the central government directly due to the presence of the county government. Hence even the stereotyped and marginalized groups have been able to give their views and complaints more easily. This has facilitated equity since with the presence of many devolved governments all over the country , all voices raised by all the different and diverse communities are heard and acted upon effectively for the major benefit of all . Therefore through equity amongst all citizens , governance has been effective in the country.

. Through devolution, there has been vast development; may it be infrastructural i.e. roads and bridges or even in terms of social amenities i.e. schools and hospitals. Mostly the rural areas which the central government may be unable to reach, through devolution, these areas are now able to be recognized hence there has been a major improvement in terms of development. The availability of representatives from this area to air the grievances , has made it possible for development projects to be initiated hence there has been vast growth in these rural areas too. Therefore, through this , leadership and execution of the leadership roles to the citizens has become much easier as all citizens feel included and recognized hence peaceful co-existence.

. In addition to this, devolution of power and functions has helped promote peace and unity amongst all citizens regardless of their diverse cultures and traditions. Many citizens from diverse communities are placed under one leader under the devolved government. The leader may originate from any community given that he/she is competent in executing his/her delegated duties. Therefore each and every community feels involved in leadership hence this creates that sense of belonging in the long run. This has helped promote a peaceful co-existence amongst all citizens. Hence all citizens are able to forego their cultural differences and work together united as one. Therefore, through this benefit , there has been an ease for leaders to execute their duties effectively in governing these citizens.

. Through devolution , crime rates have greatly declined.

Many areas in which the central government had earlier on found difficult in controlling vast criminal activities, through devolved governments, controlling and getting rid of these criminal activities has become much easier. The local government has now been able to curb these major issue effectively due to the presence of a limited jurisdiction they operate in. Due to even many local government in the country, controlling crimes and getting rid of them all over the country has proven effective in achieving a peaceful nation. Therefore with peace and unity amongst all citizens , execution of administrative functions by leaders has been more easier and effective.

. Through devolution too, job opportunities have been created in delegation of power bestowed by the central government. To run the devolved government , the central government has employed so many citizens. Therefore these citizens have been able to generate their own income and sustain their daily needs as well as improving their standards of living. Hence, this too has helped in reducing the unemployment rates in the country. Through this benefit, delegation of administrative activities by leaders has become much easier and effective.

In summary, through the presence of a devolved government, there has been major benefits therefore leaders have found it easier to perform their delegated tasks and powers more effectively.
