EFFORTS MADE BY THE GOVERNMENT TO COPE WITH DROUGHT EFFECTS IN THE COUNTRY:

Hello reader, today we’re going to look into detail some of the efforts made by the government to cope with drought effects in many parts of the country. There has been a shortage of rainfall in the country for some time now . Food production has really decreased greatly as no food is produced in the farms and the little produced cannot sustain the greater population in the country. Most of the areas in the country are now dry . This effect has hit the pastoralist community hard as most of their cattle have succumbed due to the adverse effects of drought. Food supply to sustain the cattle has been low due to shortage of rainfall thus this has led to these pastoralists incurring mega losses as too many of their cattle have ended up dying due to hunger and starvation. Therefore to counter-attack this , the government have made efforts towards eradicating the effects caused by this drought as well as the efforts in eradicating drought itself . Some of the major efforts are elaborated below :

 

. Food aids to the communities affected . 

 The government has made efforts in conjunction with non governmental organizations, to distribute food to those communities affected ; mostly those originating from arid and semi arid areas . Most of the families in those communities have been unable to even feed their kids therefore even surviving is a major problem . Hence through combined efforts made by the government and NGOs , these families have now been able to access food and this initiative has really helped in fighting this adverse effects. 

. Dam creation and implementation of irrigation system to grow food.

 The government has initiated and implemented dam construction to facilitate vast production of food within the country. This food has been able to sustain the country and it’s citizens mostly those living in dry areas. This move has proved effective in the fight against the effects caused by this drought as well as well as the fight against the drought itself . 

. Provision of incentives to farmers.

 Through provision of incentives by the government, farmers have been able to carry out their agricultural operations smoothly hence food production has greatly increases within the country. Motivated farmers produce more hence through this government initiative, more food has been produced hence this has helped cater for the effects caused by drought. The government has now been able to feed it’s citizens more effectively regardless of the effects caused by drought and drought itself.

. Through planting trees. 

 During this periods , the government has launched a tree planting initiative to cope with the adverse situation. Tree planting has helped greatly especially in weather and climatic changes. People have been urged to plant trees and irrigate them more often because in the long run, this will greatly help us all in fighting drought and it’s adverse impacts. Therefore it’s your responsibility and my responsibility to take part in this initiative and together we can make a difference in the weather and climatic changes to the best of all of us.

. Food importation. 

 The government has distributed more food rations to the needy families all over the country hence there has been food shortage in the national silos . The availability of more families to feed and limited food has led to the government going ahead and buying food outside the country so as to feed every family in need. There are too many families living in the arid and semi arid areas hence feeding them has become a major issue. The presence of slums and too many needy families too has led to the government in importing food from foreign nations. All of them need to be fed hence this initiative had to be taken to avoid the increase in the impacts originating from drought. 

In summary, these efforts have proven effective as too many needy families across the country have been able to get food regardless of these drought effects courtesy of the governments efforts. If we all adopt taking these major initiatives fighting against drought, in a few years to come , we as a nation we’ll have made huge strides in eradicating drought and it’s adverse effects greatly.
